This role requires a qualified HV Engineer with Authorised Person (AP) capability and proven experience in high voltage switching, energisation, and safe systems of work.

About the Role
As an HV Authorised Person (AP) you act as an onsite authority for HV switching activities, hazardous energy control, and energisation sequencing. You ensure full compliance with electrical safety standards, contribute to safe commissioning delivery, and work collaboratively with site management, electrical operations teams, technicians, and client HV representatives.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all electrical safety standards and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) are implemented, maintained, and enforced throughout the commissioning and electrical completion phases.
- Ensure WTG HV systems are fully tested and compliant with all applicable standards and regulations before energisation.
- Manage and maintain all documentation relating to the Control of Hazardous Energy and the Electrical Safety programme.
- Provide technical support to HSE during investigations into electrical related safety concerns.
- Act as an HV Authorised Person and Nominated Control Person under the HV Safety Rules
- Control, coordinate, and approve HV switching operations, including:
- Application and removal of Circuit Main Earths
- Issuing and cancelling Safety Documents (Permits to Work, Limitations of Access, Isolation & Earthing Certificates)
- Coordinating energisation and de-energisation sequences
- Ensure full compliance with relevant HV safety rules across the site.
Commissioning & Technical Oversight
- Oversee HV installation, termination, HV testing, commissioning and SCADA testing prior to energisation.
- Support unscheduled HV works after energisation and during ongoing construction operations.
- Act as key liaison between site management, electrical operations personnel, and the client’s HV team.
- Support planning, coordination, and execution of installation and termination works occurring post WTG installation.
Coordination & Communication
- Represent the client in internal and external commissioning and planning meetings.
- Support competency assessments of HV technicians and deliver Hazardous Energy Control inductions where required.
- Act as the primary escalation point for commissioning technicians facing technical issues or delays affecting project progress.
- Monitor SCADA systems relating to HV apparatus throughout commissioning phases.
Qualifications & Experience
Professional Requirements
- Qualified HV Engineer (HNC Electrical Engineering or qualified electrician minimum).
- Authorised Person (AP) competency.
- Minimum five years’ practical experience in electrical safety and HV operations.
- Strong working knowledge of EN 501101, EAWR, HV Safety Rules, WTSR, ENSR, and safe systems of work.
- Offshore wind experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working on HV/LV Authorisation Panels.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications.
