Role: Project Supervisor – Offshore Wind
Sector: Offshore Wind (Installation / Construction / Commissioning)
Reporting To: Site / Construction Manager
Work Pattern: Rotational offshore working (e.g., 14/14) – day/night shifts as required
1. Purpose of the Role
The Project Supervisor – Offshore Wind is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of offshore installation and construction activities during assigned rotations. The role provides on-shift leadership, ensures adherence to offshore HSE standards, and coordinates multidisciplinary teams to deliver work in line with project schedules, technical requirements, and environmental constraints.
2. Scope of Responsibilities
2.1 Supervision & Leadership
- Act as the offshore supervisory lead for daily operations on installation vessels or turbine sites
- Coordinate technicians, marine crews, and subcontractors across multiple disciplines
- Allocate daily tasks and ensure clear understanding of work scope and priorities
- Lead shift briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure effective handover between rotations
- Promote strong leadership and a proactive safety culture across all teams
2.2 Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce offshore HSE policies, procedures, and permit-to-work systems
- Ensure compliance with project safety rules, life-saving rules, and industry regulations
- Deliver and document:
- Toolbox talks
- Pre-task risk assessments
- Dynamic risk assessments
- Exercise stop-work authority in unsafe conditions
- Monitor offshore environmental factors including:
- Weather conditions
- Sea state and vessel stability
- Lifting limits
- Ensure correct PPE usage and adherence to offshore safety standards
- Support incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
2.3 Operational & Technical Oversight
- Supervise offshore installation, assembly, lifting, and commissioning activities
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with:
- Method statements
- Risk assessments
- Lift plans
- Technical drawings and OEM procedures
- Coordinate interfaces between:
- Mechanical teams
- Electrical teams
- Marine crew and crane operators
- Oversee use and condition of tools, lifting equipment, and installation assets
- Ensure operations are conducted within weather windows and operational limits
2.4 Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all works meet project specifications and offshore quality standards
- Verify completion of inspection and test plans (ITPs) where applicable
- Review and complete:
- Installation checklists
- Work packs
- Quality records
- Raise and manage non-conformance reports (NCRs)
- Support audits, inspections, and client verification activities
2.5 Planning & Coordination
- Support daily and short-term planning of offshore activities
- Coordinate with:
- Site management
- Marine coordination teams
- Logistics and vessel operations
- Identify constraints such as weather delays, equipment issues, or resource gaps
- Assist in resource allocation and workforce planning during rotations
- Maximise productivity during operational and weather windows
2.6 Reporting & Communication
- Provide daily updates on:
- Progress and installation status
- HSE performance and observations
- Risks, delays, and constraints
- Maintain accurate offshore records and documentation
- Produce detailed shift/rotation handover reports
- Act as a key communication link between offshore teams and onshore management
3. Key Deliverables
- Safe and efficient execution of offshore wind activities
- Full compliance with HSE, quality, and project requirements
- Accurate reporting and documentation
- Effective coordination across vessel, turbine, and project teams
- Timely identification and escalation of risks, issues, and delays
4. Working Conditions
- Offshore-based role on installation vessels, SOVs, or turbine locations
- Rotational working pattern (e.g., 2/2)
- 12-hour shifts (day/night rotation where required)
- Exposure to:
- Harsh marine environments
- Working at height
- Vessel transfers and offshore logistics
- Flexibility required to adapt to weather conditions and project schedules
5. Competency Requirements
- Proven experience in offshore wind or offshore construction supervision
- Strong understanding of offshore installation operations and marine coordination
- Knowledge of HSE practices within offshore environments
- Demonstrated leadership and team coordination skills
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, procedures, and lift plans
- Required certifications typically include:
- GWO Basic Safety Training (BST)
- GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART)
- Offshore medical (e.g., OGUK or equivalent)
- Relevant supervisory or safety qualifications
