Wind Turbine - Mechanical Technician - Europe

Role Description 

OEG are currently seeking a number of Wind Turbine Mechanical Technicians to work on Offshore Commissioning (SOV-Based) in the Netherlands.

Role Purpose 

The Wind Turbine Mechanical Technician is responsible for carrying out mechanical installation, commissioning, testing, and fault rectification activities on offshore wind turbines during the commissioning phase of the project. The role is performed offshore from a Service Operation Vessel (SOV) and contributes directly to the safe and timely handover of turbines to operations. 

Key Responsibilities 

Mechanical Commissioning & Installation 

• Execute mechanical commissioning activities on wind turbines in accordance with OEM manuals, commissioning procedures, and project requirements 

• Perform installation, alignment, torqueing, tensioning, and adjustment of mechanical systems and components (e.g. drivetrain, yaw systems, pitch systems, hydraulics) 

• Support turbine energisation, first rotation, and operational readiness activities 

• Complete punch list items and corrective work identified during commissioning 

• Carry out inspections, measurements, and checks to ensure mechanical compliance and quality standards 

Troubleshooting & Fault Rectification 

• Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults during commissioning and testing phases 

• Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions 

• Liaise with commissioning engineers, OEM representatives, and quality teams as required 

Documentation & Reporting 

• Accurately complete commissioning checklists, work packs, permits, and handover documentation 

• Record findings, defects, and completed work in project reporting systems 

• Provide clear shift handovers and progress updates 

Safety & Compliance 

• Work in full compliance with project HSE policies, site rules, and OEM safety requirements 

• Actively participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems 

• Demonstrate safe working practices at height, in confined spaces, and during offshore transfers 

• Promote and support a strong safety culture offshore 

Offshore & Vessel Operations 

• Operate safely from an SOV, including W2W gangway transfers, daughter craft, and turbine access systems 

• Participate in vessel safety briefings and emergency drills 

• Support offshore living and working arrangements in a multi-disciplinary team environment 

Required Qualifications & Experience 

Technical Qualifications 

• Recognised mechanical qualification (one or more of the following):  

• NVQ Level 3 / Level 4 in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance 

• Apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, or similar 

• Equivalent international trade qualification 

• Proven experience working with large-scale rotating machinery, hydraulics, gear systems, or drivetrains 

• Offshore wind turbine commissioning or installation experience (preferred) 

Offshore & Safety Training 

Valid certification typically includes: 

• GWO Basic Safety Training (BST)  

• Working at Height 

• Manual Handling 

• Fire Awareness 

• First Aid 

• GWO Sea Survival (including SOV elements where applicable) 

• GWO Enhanced First Aid (if required by project) 

• GWO Working at Height Refresher (in-date) 

• Medical Certificate  

• OGUK / ENG1 (or project-approved equivalent) 

• SOV / W2W Familiarisation (project- or vessel-specific, if applicable) 

Additional / Advantageous Training 

• OEM-specific turbine training (mechanical modules) 

• Hydraulic systems training 

• Bolt tensioning and torque certification 

• Confined Space Training 

• Advanced Rescue Training (ART) – desirable 

• HUET / BOSIET (if project-specific requirements apply)
