Job Description: Control Centre & Operations Engineer (Contract – 6 Months)
Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly competent Control Centre & Operations Engineer to support high‑voltage (HV) operations across a major offshore windfarm project. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent safety discipline, and the ability to operate confidently within a high‑performance engineering environment.
The successful candidate will contribute to the safe installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of HV infrastructure, working both onshore and offshore as required. Flexibility, technical leadership, and a solid understanding of best‑practice engineering processes are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Safety Responsibilities
- Perform safe HV switching and operational activities under applicable Electrical and Mechanical Safety Rules.
- Manage and coordinate HV Operations and Maintenance activities to ensure maximum safety, availability, and performance.
- Ensure all personnel and third‑party contractors comply with required safety procedures and standards.
- Maintain accurate operational records, documentation, and compliance reporting.
Engineering Responsibilities
- Provide technical input across installation, commissioning, operational and maintenance phases of HV infrastructure.
- Review and develop Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), operational procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Support power system operational control design, power quality analysis, and protection assessments.
- Assist in the development of operational systems, standard operating procedures, and engineering processes.
Control Centre & Back‑Office Support
- Assist in creating and maintaining control room manuals, operational frameworks, and business processes.
- Provide engineering support across additional projects when required, with potential travel to other sites.
Essential Competencies
- Proven electrical engineering background with experience working on HV infrastructure from 11 kV to 400 kV.
- Experience working in a Control Room or operational control environment, ideally within electrical networks, offshore wind, marine, or heavy‑industry sectors.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, SLDs, and HV safety procedures.
- Competence in reviewing RAMS and ensuring compliance with safety and operational requirements.
- Experience with electrical aspects of offshore windfarm operations.
- Ability to validate compliance processes and oversee electrical activities for safety, contractual, and technical assurance.
Desirable Competencies
- Previous authorisation as an Authorising Engineer, Assessing Person, CE, AP or SAP (up to 400 kV).
- HVDC project experience.
- Familiarity with Commissioning Switching Programs (CSPs) and High Voltage Control System Changes (HVSCC).
- Ability to meet GWO Offshore Medical and Survival certification requirements.
